Red Rooster Group Principal Howard Levy was selected as Hazon’s Person of the Year for the 2009 Jewish Environmental Bike Ride in recognition of his accomplishments in promoting, fundraising and organizing for the 4 day event.

The ride, help over Labor Day weekend, raises money and awareness for food sustainability and environmental issues. As a member of the Steering Committee, Howard was responsible for overseeing the design of rider recruitment and fundraising materials for the 2-day fundraising bike ride as well as starting the largest team on the ride.

His accomplishments for the 2009 Ride include:

  • Creating promotional postcards to attract riders to the event.
  • Writing and designing a 28-page fundraising guide.
  • Creating a collection of Fundraising Letters to riders to model.
  • Producing a Fundraising Clinic to help participants fundraise.
  • Creating a Sponsorship document for the event and soliciting sponsors.
  • Creating and printing “How to Fix a Flat” cards for riders.
  • Creating Team Brooklyn, the largest team on the ride (with 25 members) and the team first in fundraising with $28,000 raised.
  • Coordinating 4 team events throughout the year.
  • Raising almost $5,000 for the ride (the second highest fundraiser for the ride).

Overall, these fundraising tools helped riders attract over $300,000 in donations, on par with last year. In a year in which most organizations have seen funding drop 20 – 30% or more, this is a significant accomplishment.
