How Much Religion in Your Fundraising?
If your faith-based nonprofit organization is not an actual congregation, but a social service agency, how much emphasis do you put on your religious link in your donor appeals?
Continue readingHow Much is This Dollar Worth?
Nonprofits often brag that a high percentage of their money goes directly toward services – with a low percent toward actual overhead and fundraising costs – as this insert in a direct mail piece shows. However, rather than benefitting nonprofits, this strategy only undermines nonprofits’ ability to fundraise and to plan for success.
Ask the Expert: How Do I Cultivate Individual Donors?
Do you have any insight/ideas on a process for a well-respected agency in Newark that has no donor “lists” or database….when they have asked me to help in major gifts and individual donorship….I have come in as a consultant to this agency that has about 95% government support….and are losing $500,000 in the next two months alone….with more to come! Any ideas?

Almost at Halfway Fundraising Mark
I have raised $4,736 so far for Hazon. Please support me in reaching my goal of raising $10,000 for this amazing organization.
Hazon has had to cut staff and reduce programs due to reduced funding this year, and I am dedicated to doing my part to see that it can continue its good work.

I also started Hazon Team Brooklyn to create team spirit and help other Ride participants meet each other and fundraise. 15 people joined us for the NY Philharmonic Concert in Prospect Park – one of many events that we have to foster Jewish community in Brooklyn.

FUNDRAISING: Free Planned Giving Webinar
Lorri Greif is on a mission to make Planned Giving a “household word” in the nonprofit community. I support her mission, because I, too believe that nonprofits need to plan for their long-term sustainability and planned giving is a key component. To help nonprofits understand what planned giving is and how it can benefit their organization, she is offering a free webinar.
Partnering for Additional Visibility
Here’s one way to extend your message to a new audience of people that may not have heard of you – partner with another organization that has a sizable distribution. The Fresh Air Fund is able to reach millions of New Yorkers by striking a deal with Con Edison to include a “bill stuffer” solicitation envelope in their invoices to their customers. The insert is a self-addressed envelope that makes it very easy to respond with a donation.
WAKE UP CALL: What relationships (board members, donors, vendors, etc.) can you leverage to extend your message inexpensively?
